Maralyn and I have been on a simplicity kick, ever since we prepared a November Thanksgiving dinner one hot august afternoon in Arizona.

We tried to follow up with some simple holiday recipes for the Big Blend Magazine.

Now I am having the words “quick and easy” be my resolution in food as well as travel and life.

January makes me think of rich, warm slow cooking and braising of natural ingredients, in the oven or crock pot. Even where Maralyn and I base, Florida and Arizona, it is wonderful to come in from a refreshing swim and find a simple, hearty mood ready to serve.

This little sauce is a perfect start to many appetizers and sides. We use it for garlic bread for a crowd or a few. Ours is similar to another version spotted in the fall issue of Southern Living Magazine.

Garlic Butter Sauce

makes 3 tablespoons
prep 5 minutes

3 tablespoons real butter
1 clove of garlic, minced. I use a big clove or two small.
salt and pepper to taste, or add any other herb, paprika, rosemary, onion flakes, etc.

Microwave all in a safe cup or dish for 30 sec. on high. stir, continue at l5 second intervals until butter is melted. Pour hot sauce over almost everything.

Serve over meat, rice, veggies or with bread or toast. I smear it on the bread and broil for a minute until crisp and golden.
