First place in the 2009 Oregon Chocolate Festival for Chocolate Candy (Best Marriage of Chocolate and Candy) went to a new company, Homemade Confections of Medford. In addition to their English Toffee being exceptional, I liked their Gourmet Crumbles, bits and pieces of English Toffee, Peanut Brittle, Milk Chocolate covered Macadamia Nuts and Semi-sweet chocolate covered Cashews.

Brenda and I were judges and spent quite a bit of time talking and tasting with Judith Galindo, Owner and inspiration for Homemade Confections. Her candy recipes are secret, but Judith was willing to share her homemade Kahlua recipe with us.

Kahlua
4 cups sugar
3 cups water
1 cup corn syrup
Bring sugar, water and corn syrup to a boil, until dissolved; let cool
Stir in:
4 ounces instant coffee
One 8 ounce bottle pure vanilla
1/2 gallon premium Vodka or White Rum
1 cup premium Brandy

Divide into decorative bottles and store for 30 days.

Salute!

Homemade Confections ships nationwide. You can place orders by calling 541 690-9751. Their website is www.homemadeconfections.com.

The crumbles are great for stirring into a cheesecake or a topping on dessert.
