As much as our team enjoys learning about and tasting wine, we all love fresh fall cider.
.
Englishmen drank cider before Roman times. Once America’s staple beverage, we find that many people have never tasted real cider. Cider is fermented apple juice. John Adams drank a tankard with his breakfast every day. He attributed his robust long life to this drink. He died at 96.

Our team of former New Englanders has enjoyed the tastes and benefits of cider from the local Connecticut mills for years. Recently, one of the best cider experiences was discovered from vintage Virginia apples. We tasted Royal Pippin apple cider from Albemarle Cider Works near Charlottesville.

This artisanal cider was reminiscent of the classic beverage served at Montecello, Mt. Vernon and other notable estates in the colonial period of our country.

We normally include a recipe with our stories and recommendations, however this cider is perfect on its own. In fact, we found it addictive.

We have served cider as a hot toddy, warming it and serving with a few splashes of spiced rum, amber or dark, perhaps adding a sprinkle of all-spice and a cinnamon stick or lemon peel ribbon for garnish.
