Honey Holiday Manhattan - Photo Brenda C Hill

I discovered a new holiday cocktail in the trends for 2012 that Maralyn wrote about in our December 7, 2011,  Where and What in the World column. Called The Golden Rule, this old classic tastes  newly smooth and delicious with honey liqueur added to the bourbon. One of the trends for 2012 is using honey whiskey in your cocktails.

My mixologist neighbor and I experimented. It was fun to make this drink just right for our tastes, not too sweet. We came up with this holiday Manhattan, thanks to the idea in the article. Enjoy finding your favorite mix of portions.

Ingredients

1 part Kentucky Straight Bourbon
1 part honey liqueur
a few dashes of  white vermouth
a few dashes of bitters
ice
optional cherry or lemon twist

Method

Stir in a cocktail shaker with cracked ice.
Strain into a chilled martini – manhattan  glass.

Garnish with a cherry or twist if you desire.

We served this drink with salted nuts. I think of manhattans as a snowbound winter libation by a roaring fire. Yet this one was refreshingly cool on our warm Florida patio.
