I received this letter. Because I believe so strongly in the organization, I wanted to pass it on and share with those that follow my writing. Fortunately, I will be in Lyon late January to watch much of this wonderful talent. ~MDH

Dear Supporter,

As the holiday season is here, perhaps you, like most of America and other parts of the world, are finding yourself extra busy in your kitchen. Roasting, glazing, baking, broiling—this is the time of year when the kitchen takes center stage in homes across our country and beyond.

At ment’or, however, the kitchen is always front and central. Our foundation was launched in 2008 to inspire culinary excellence in America every day of the year, with a focus not only on the present but also on the future, by supporting the development of the next generation of great American chefs, sommeliers, and restaurant managers. Founded by Chefs Jérôme Bocuse, Thomas Keller and Daniel Boulud—the BKB in our name— and bolstered by a Culinary Council of more than forty renowned chefs from around the world, ment’or is the foremost American foundation dedicated to the mentorship of young culinary professionals. Many of our mentees ultimately gain the expertise to compete on behalf of the USA in the prestigious Bocuse d’Or competition, held in Lyon, France, every two years.

Just as every chef needs a sous-chefment’or needs you. Your support is indispensable to our mission of funding the educational opportunities we provide to our aspiring talent in the field of gastronomy. With your gift, ment’or can continue to:

  • Offer educational grants and internships for chefs, sommeliers, and managers through its Grants Program;
  • Identify rising talent through its Young Chef Competition Series;
  • Recruit, train and financially support Team USA at the Bocuse d’Or Competition to build appreciation for the fine culinary arts in America.

 For far too long, American cuisine has not been recognized as the extraordinary gastronomic experience that it is. With your generous commitment, ment’or can continue to ensure that emerging culinary professionals have all the educational and financial resources they need to set the gold standard—and raise that standard even higher.

At this time, as you prepare your end of year feast or enjoy a special meal at your favorite restaurant, we hope that you will think of our young trainees who are devoting their lives toward the creation of unforgettable American gastronomic experiences. And we hope you’ll be inspired to offer a gift to ment’or by or before the close of the calendar year. A contribution in any amount is much needed and greatly appreciated.

With gratitude and best wishes for a joyful holiday season,
