photo-14Kicking off restaurant week in Claremont, California  (7/10-19) was a food lover’s dream. A group of writers and photographers from the International Food & Wine Travel Writers Association sampled many mouth-watering bites and sips.

I have chosen my top tastes from several restaurants located in the tree-lined village of Claremont.

The Junction is aptly named. This unique restaurant creatively combines the cultures and chefs from Europe, China and Mexico.

My big bite lunch began with with an amuse-bouche of black olives marinated in mixed herbs, honey, balsamic vinegar and evoo. We sampled dates and black figs stuffed with creamy Roquefort cheese and crunchy walnuts. French influenced jumbo escargot were presented in shells with a twist – infused ginger butter. I could have devoured a dozen but the marinated prawns arrived  sizzling in – yes, more butter.

It was challenging to save room for soft shell crab tacos. Served with a frosted mug of local beer, these tacos were some of the best I ever tasted, even along the fishing villages on Mexican Riviera. Fresh lime and the surprise of a crispy onion ring added the perfect touch. The service was impeccable and beyond all expectations.
