Besides isolating weather conditions, doors are used for many other different purposes. Something even scarier than wind causing damage is an unknown person creating it. Home security should be one of the most important factors to take care of in your house.

Commercial properties represent a new level of must-have protection, and they require high caution measures. To help you find appropriate protection for your housing or offices, we are going to present six most common door security systems in the following sections.

1. Card Reader

One of the most common security methods for any doors is a card reader. Hotels commonly use card readers who are often triggering frustration in visitors because in most cases they don’t work correctly. However, card readers allow more flexibility when it comes to security, and that’s the reason why hotels use it so often). Do you want to allow access to specific areas only to a group of people?

Cards are roughly divided into three categories depending on how they can be read: barcode cards, RFID cards, and magnetic strip. Barcodes and RFID cards are pretty fast. Barcodes are enough to hold near the machine, and RFID cards even don’t have to be put on display. Magnetic strip cards are the slowest as they have to be swiped through the reader. However, card reader system is a great solution if you want to follow who is entering which area.

2. Keypad Controlling System

As cards can be easily stolen, many business owners turn to the keypad controlling system. They mostly use the numeric keypad to access the area. You can arrange whether you want only one unique code for everyone or you’d like for each to have different code. We have come to the point when keypads may seem a bit obsolete, but a good thing is they also allow you access through your phone.

3. Automatic Radio Transmitter Device

Automatic radio transmitter device sends a signal to open garage doors automatically. By the simple press of a button, you can let anyone inside your garage. This system is especially useful for commercial properties with large garage doors that take a while to open. You can either automatically open the doors or send a signal to your personnel to open it. It brings a lot of flexibility and allows you to communicate with any part of the building. For example, if you go for the automatic door opener version as an employer, you allow your employees to be more productive and use time on something more important.

4. Magnetic Lock

Magnetic locks have many beneficial properties. However, they need to be used in addition to another safety mechanism. They are mainly the type of a lock than entire security protocol. Magnetic locks have the benefit of lasting longer due to no movement needed which means they are also less likely to get stuck. Although it may seem unreliable, the magnetic lock can withstand up to 1200 pounds of force. Its technology allows it to immediately release the door if the power is cut off making it perfect for places with emergency exits.

5. Phone and CCTV Systems

Both phone entry systems and CCTV security systems require a person to let someone inside. However, phone entry system provides the same level of safety for lower price. They work similarly: CCTV uses visual identification while phone system uses voice recognition. Phone systems outdo CCTV because you can assign specific code words for any individuals who regularly come in.

6. Fingerprint Lock

One of the earliest created systems that use bio-metrics is a fingerprint lock. That’s right; you’ve seen a dozen of it in movies! These locks provide access to authorized personnel only by recognizing their unique fingerprint. Fingerprint locks scan and remember fingerprints by converting them to a numeric code. Once the digital template is created, every time someone tries to come in, the machine searches for their numeric match. One of the major drawbacks is that these locks remain closed when electricity is off, what means that you won’t be able to enter your home/office.

Final Thoughts

Doors are protecting your house from different weather, but also saving it from intruders. In times we live in, there are few property components as crucial as door security system, so be sure to keep that in mind during your next home improvement. Luckily, technology brought an abundance of systems to the market resulting in big flexibility. You can choose whatever security system fits you best, and, besides that, safety mechanism can add to aesthetics of your home!
