Perhaps you’re one of the many people who line up in theatres whenever a new Fast and the Furious movie comes out. You stare at the silver screen, telling yourself that one day, you too will drive a sports car. Dreaming is free so why not plan on which luxury car you would buy in the future?

When it comes to sports cars, a lot of European car brands are popular, including Porsche, BMW and Audi, among others. The truth is, there are many options available to you. So, how do you know which one is ideal for you? Take a look at the guideline we’ve prepared to help you choose the suitable sports car for your taste and personality.

Which do you Prefer – a Convertible or a Coupe?

A lot of people want that extra drama and style that a convertible gives. However, there are others who prefer luxury and comfort of a closed-in coupe. It is important that you clearly identify which of the two you prefer before you choose a sports car.

Also, it is worth noting that a lot of convertibles have a soft top. This means that they can produce excess cabin noise. At the same time, there’s always the possibility of leaking whenever it rains. On the other hand, a luxury car with a solid retractable roof may weigh down the vehicle and also limit your trunk space. There are also variations on convertible cars. Some have a removable hood while older types of luxury cars have a T-Top style convertible top.

Are you After the Looks or the Performance of a Car?

You have to know that performance cars are more expensive. If you lean towards the looks of a sports car, then the Ford Mustang and Chevy Camaro are some of the more affordable options. You can still get around 300 horsepower as well as in excess of 30 miles per gallon.

On the other hand, if you prefer a vehicle that promises high-end performance and horsepower, prepare to spend more. If you want a car with a powerful engine with proven speed, choose from the BMW 1 Series Audi TT, Porsche Boxster and the Alfa Romeo 4C. As a rule of thumb, 0-60mph within five seconds can be considered as fast.

When you choose the sports car, make sure you get the speed that you want. However, it does not always mean that faster cars are better. You often have to sacrifice comfort for speed when you choose fast cars. It is important to find a car that offers a good balance between the two.

Which Drive System is Better for You?

A lot of people prefer rear-wheel drive, but others are more comfortable with front-wheel drive. In general, people like one or the other, but never both. A lot of sports cars are designed with a rear-wheel drive since it offers precise steering and sharper handling. However, it takes a high level of driving skills when you choose sports car with rear wheel drive.

If you are not experienced in this drive system, you might over-steer the rear wheels and during rains, handling it can be quite tricky. Most drivers find front wheel drive cars easier to handle. However, around the turns, they have to sacrifice performance. Also, the torque steer is incomparable to rear wheel drive so they are typically not as exciting to drive.

If you want something in between, go for the all-wheel drive. Power is typically distributed between the front and rear wheels and they have good pulling power as well as grip. However, do remember that an all-wheel drive car is typically more expensive than the other two options. Also, they are less efficient and do not offer the same performance as a rear-wheel drive car.

Consider the Specifications

If you have thoughts of reselling your sports car in the future, then you should carefully consider the specifications. Keep in mind that there are specifications that are favoured by the general sports car buying crowd. Certain trim levels, as well as engine and gearbox combinations, are more popular among car buyers. So, you have to consider these as they can affect the resale value of your vehicle in the future.

Having this in mind, carefully select the colour of your sports car. You might want to reconsider if you’re planning to purchase a vehicle with wild colours. Also, remember to get good allow wheels to enhance the look and performance of your car. Since leather trims offer high-end luxury, it is also popular among buyers in the market. Consider these specifications so you can have a good resale value in the future.

In general, the rule is never to be impulsive when choosing a sports car. Take your time and take some test drives. You can also check out some auto shows where you can compare different sports cars. In time, you will have the unique and exciting driving adventure in your new sports car!
