We love to rediscover retro cocktails that remind us of the elegant and exotic days in New York and Paris.
The white Lady cocktail is claimed to have been created at Harry’s New York bar in Paris. I tried one this week in one of the old Florida hotels on the gold coast. It tasted like it always did when the cocktail hour was honored by my father and me in Manhattan’s best bars.
White Lady
1-1/2 ounce dry gin
3/4 oz Contreau
1 oz fresh lemon juice
1 dash egg white
1 teaspoon or barspoon of cane sugar
Pour all ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake and strain into a cocktail glass. Now here is the secret I learned from Tony Lord…garnish with a little freshly-grated nutmeg.
Cheers to the good ole days and the mysterious white lady.
