Perhaps you have been secretly thinking about getting a divorce from your partner. May be you’re in a toxic relationship and spend most of your day solving the puzzle on how to get out of your marriage. But, before initiating any step , there are some important realities you need to know.
When someone advice you getting a divorce, then you think “That’s not me,” or “Even though things aren’t perfect, we would never split.” That’s what a lot of women think because they are blind-sided. What if your partner asks for a divorce that you never saw coming. If you don’t think it pertains to you, even then you should read this, just in case:
- Keep a journal
You never know, when you will be faced with a split one day, you’ll be happy to have a record of what happened when. Any fights, arguments, blames or whatsoever. Your lawyer will also thank you for this. Just keep a notebook in your bag or next to your bed, and get into the habit of cover the day’s events. Something that seems irrelevant now may turn out to be just the piece of evidence you need to prove your case.
- Know where the money is
Divorce is something which gets ugly. The man who absolutely loves you today may try to hide assets from you tomorrow. So, it is better you should make sure where the money is, and where all the debt is. If an asset or liability is acquired during the marriage, then it is marital. That is, it belongs to both of you. If you have purchased something before the marriage, then your spouse has no claim to it and vice versa. Same goes for the debt which was acquired before the marriage also.
- Look for divorce lawyers now
Ask your friends or look on the Internet who is the best matrimonial lawyer is in your area and what their price range is. Be ready to retain him as soon as possible as it becomes necessary. If you wait until you are in the middle of it then it will be too late and your husband may have bulged the guy or the gal, and you’re left with an inferior presentation. Also,m it takes a plenty of time to do a detailed research and that’s exactly what you won’t have.
- Have a 3-month emergency fund
There might be a chance that you have a close friend or a family member who is ready to help you and willing to keep you afloat for three months. But if you don’t, then you have to squirrel away enough money to last you at least three months. This 3-month emergency fund will be a safeguard to protect you and your children in the short term. Any you must be thinking why three months? Because that’s about how long it will take for a court to issue and enforce a temporary child support order. If you can’t then don’t worry, there are many sugar baby jobs available which will let you earn a lot of money.
- Divorce is a marathon, not a sprint
Getting a divorce takes a long time than you’d think. Don’t think you’ll be ready to do in and out onto the next thing so fast. Be ready for a long haul. You will have to take decisions that will affect you and your children’s live forever. You will have to stand for your children like a rock in ways you never imagined.
Congratulations! You’re now better educated and better prepared for what lies ahead than most women getting a divorce. If its done right, it can be something of a fresh start-a-new beginning. With all the emotions involved it shouldn’t be a terribly surprising that sometimes divorce gets messy and a roller coaster of emotions. That’s where the things really take a turn for the worse. It can be messy if you aren’t prepared for it- and expensive too.
Getting a divorce won’t solve all your problems, but it will solve the problem of living in an unhappy marriage. So, be prepared with the aforementioned points and keep yourself strong!
