Maralyn wrote on our 8/6/09 blog of the joys and difficulties of being a food judge. Although a dream job in many ways, it is not easy and not for everyone.

Several people were surprised at the winner of the judges top award at the recent Taste of Fallbrook restaurant contest. The delicious chicken salad and potato salad made by Chalet Deli was, simply, the best taste. In fact, “I can’t believe I ate the whole thing,” and I know better as a judge of l4 dishes.

I was interested to discover in one of my foodie magazines that the sandwich is still the most popular meal in America, for lunch and dinner. So, it should be of no surprise, that the humble sandwich, perfectly prepared, won the grand prize. As Maralyn pointed out, we judge on several criteria, but is always about the very best taste.
