When you are thinking about Chinese New Year, you may want to check out our article on The Big Blend Magazine.
In doing some research, I discovered that Chinese New Year is the favorite holiday for Chinese children. They all get money in red envelopes from all the adults–friends and family. Once you are married, you no longer receive the wonderful red envelopes.
A friend from Hong Kong, Michael Taylor, who writes the Accidental Travel Writer Blog says: “Many types of tea are served at Cantonese tea houses, but Pu Er is the most favored because it has a reputation of ‘cutting through the grease’ as many types of dim sum are rather greasy. It is thought to aid digestion.”
Mike also went on to say, “Most Chinese favor a Chinese rice wine at Chinese New Year and beer is always popular. In Hong Kong, French cognac is popular at all festive occasions: wedding banquets, birthday celebrations, and Chinese New Year – especially among the older generation. Over the last five or so years, red wine has been gaining favor–especially with the younger generation. But, it hasn’t really caught on yet in the mainland.”
The Hill Team has made numerous trips to Asia, and always enjoyed the experience.
Our article includes recipes for:

I also have a little more about this on radio interview. This is a 2 hour show and I’m on the last 20 minutes. But, the line up for the show is terrific.
