Scientists say that we know more about our solar system than we know about the depths of the oceans on our planet. However, there are some things that we definitely know about the biggest and the greatest ocean that we have – it is full of amazing, paradise-like islands that make perfect destinations for all those that want to see the natural and cultural treasures of distant lands. Here are some of them that definitely deserve to find their place as a part of your travelling fantasies.
Vanuatu
Vanuatu consists of more than 80 islands of different sizes and it is a true delight for people who enjoy hiking and snorkeling. They come to this part of South Pacific to enjoy these activities for two reasons. The first thing is the Mt. Yasur. It is an active volcano of the island Tanna and it is a famous hiking place. It is advisable to visit it during twilight to experience the lovely colors that the volcano heat creates. The other thing that attracts many people is the part between the Port Vila to Espiritu Santo. Santo is the home of native people that still live in the jungles and among the crashed planes and shipwrecks from the WWII. These shipwrecks make amazing snorkeling spots. The most famous one is S.S. President Coolidge.
Fiji
Palms, lagoons and beaches are the first things that come to mind when you think about the more than 300 islands that make the archipelago of Fiji. People choose Fiji because of the amazing cultural heritage and its tropical climate, or because of the many luxurious spas and resorts on its secluded islands. Fiji offers all the watersports that you can think off and then some. Paragliding, skydiving, ziplining and parasailing are also on their list. If you want something really intriguing, search for a guide to get you through the Fiji cannibals caves. You will hear some amazing stories there.
New Caledonia
Your New Caledonia travel can be a real adventure if you take enough time to explore all of it. Start with the Pine Island and its breathtaking lagoon. The unbelievably blue water, banyan and pine trees will make you think you are alone in the world and you will love it. Take a walk and enjoy the natural pool at Oro Bay. Another face of New Caledonia is Noumea. While the Pine Island is all about the nature, Noumea is all about bringing the fancy and luxurious French Riviera to the Pacific.
Samoa
The exploration of many places of Samoa should definitely start with one of the most pristine beaches – the Lalomanu beach. That is a world famous beach and it is a must-see here. The town of Upolu will show you the clash of nature and the amazing people. However, to learn more about the people, visit the Apia markets. If the beaches do not show you enough of the beauty, check out Savai’i and prepare to me amazed.
Easter Island
Everybody knows about the big, stone, human figures – Moai. They are a part of a wonderful culture of Easter Islands. To truly discover the culture and the customs, make sure you come here at the beginning of February when the locals have their Tapati festival. You may even participate in Haka Hei. It means you will climb the steepest slope and be forced to slide down on banana peels.
Bora Bora
Tahiti is an absolute treasury of natural wonders and beauty, but Bora Bora must be the most luxurious of the Tahiti’s islands. The overwater bungalows are a rite of passage for those that visit this place. Stunning nature and surroundings are definitely attractive, but another thing makes Bora Bora special – it is absolutely secluded. They say that one tenth of all people that visit Hawaii in a day, visit Bora Bora in a year.
The islands of the Pacific are undoubtedly among the most beautiful places in the world. Visiting them is something that you definitely need to do if you have the time and the money. Whichever you choose, you cannot get it wrong.
