Grapefruit Cocktail

In celebration of Earth week I came up with a simple spring refresher cocktail for a neighborhood sunset soiree.

Since I grow a few grapefruit trees and usually have gin on hand, I simply mixed 1 part of fresh squeezed juice with one part gin. Then  I strained and served over some crushed ice in a pretty glass. Pink grapefruit is an appealing shade and adds some natural sweetness.

Back in the 1970’s Gourmet suggested a similar cocktail with the addition of one tablespoon of dry vermouth.. If your grapefruit is tart, I prefer the added sweetness of  a tablespoon of Sarasota’s raw and unfiltered Farmmarket honey. This wildflower natural honey is called My Sweetest Honey.

If you are not a gin fan, you could substitute citrus or plain vodka, tequila or silver rum.
