Soon Maralyn and I, The Tandem Tasters, turn into two senoras as we head back to Mexico. We love Mexican cuisine, especially delicious and healthful at the ranch. We will be
harvesting and feasting on the farm, fresh, organic food at award-winning Rancho La Puerta in Tecote, Mexico. I can hardly wait until we are returning guests and presenters at the Ranch on July 14. This week, I popped back into a favorite south of the border spot on Main St. in Sarasota, Florida, called Two Senoritas.
It is difficult to choose a favorite, but after the savory sangria, I love to devour the enchiladas and sizzling shrimp fajitas. Best of all the well trained staff prepares guacamole, chunky and fresh, at my table. The last time I was there some hungry girls were just having fun at a bachelorette party. I also enjoy this cafe on those few quiet times when I can dream of
returning to Mexico. They are open for lunch and dinner 7 days a week.

My other choice is very different from the Main Street standby. Ophelia’s on the Bay, is an elegant and romantic destination on Siesta Key, which was voted the best beach in the country last year. It is not easy to get a reservation in season, but perseverance pays, especially if you are lucky to snag a waterfront table on the deck. We were close enough to little Sarasota Bay to feel as if we were on our boat. I recently dined there with friends, one a San Diego chef, who called Ophelia’s one of the best meals he ever tasted. We all sampled one of Chef Dan Olson’s specials, recommended by the highly competent wait staff. Busy at it was, we were made to feel special with leisurely, yet excellent, service.
Arrive early for the spectacular crimson sky and blue water sunset views, grab a perfectly crafted martini at the popular bar and stick your toes in the water before your savory feast begins. The fish nearly jumped for the bay to our plates. We lingered for hours enjoying every bite of this fine dining experience. Ophelia’s is one of Sarasota’s top treasures by the sea.
